Then there's the Angeles Crest Highway, which starts right at Foothill Boulevard and climbs into the San Gabriels. A weekend run up the Crest is great for the driver and hard on the car. I drive Angeles Crest on weekends. What should I have checked?

Brake pads and brake fluid first, then tires and coolant. If you drive the Crest often, change the brake fluid more often than the minimum interval. On long descents, use a lower gear so the engine does part of the braking.

Why does my car run hot on the climb but not in town?

Climbing in heat shows up a cooling system that's only just keeping up. A weak fan, a sticking thermostat, low coolant or a partly clogged radiator can all hide in town and show up on the grade. If the gauge climbs, pull over and let it cool before you go on.

Do I need the dealer for coding or software work on my BMW or Mercedes-Benz?
